Excellent novel, set between the World Wars, about all sorts of things – mainly growing up but also uneducated posh women, being a servant, drink, earning a living, cricket, sisters, babies, motherhood, families, marriage… if you enjoyed They Were Sisters – also by Dorothy Whipple – as I did – you’ll probably like this too.

I haven’t read this one yet but it’s on my list! I think that Dorothy Whipple has been very underrated……thank goodness for Persephone Books!
